Who
Phil Shaw, Avisure on behalf of the NSW branch of the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand
Phil Shaw, the founding director of Avisure and sister company Ecosure, is a tertiary-qualified environmental scientist and wildlife biologist, with over 27 years of experience partnering with clients around the world to identify and implement effective aviation wildlife hazard management.
He has worked with civil and defence airports, infrastructure and airport developers, airlines and local governments, helping them to identify wildlife hazards to their operations, providing clients with realistic options for managing these hazards safely and sustainably and reducing the ever-present risk of costly wildlife strikes, both in aircraft damage, and potentially, human lives.
With respected US biologist and ornithologist, Dr Richard Dolbeer, Phil developed an international database of aircraft accidents and fatalities involving wildlife strike. It encompasses aviation wildlife strike accidents 1912-present, and is made freely available to industry, working on the premise that you can’t manage what you don’t know.
With his wide-ranging experience and knowledge, he has often been called upon as an expert witness to provide robust, well-informed evidence; for example, to support accident investigation and assist in resolving land-use disputes.
He will draw on this expertise to present at a lunchtime webinar on 14 March (1300 AEST) on ‘Wildlife strike statistics and legal cases’ held by the NSW branch of the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.
