How smart are ibis?

Avisure managing director, Phil Shaw, was in the news yesterday. He was speaking as an expert member of the Ibis Management Coordination Group (IMCG), established in the 1990s following an ibis strike on a Qantas jet at Coolangatta. In the ABC News report on the canny Gold Coast ibis, Shaw said: ‘They’re very smart’.

‘They’ve worked out that if they go to places where there’s a flying fox camp, or next to the road where it’s really difficult for us to get to … they’re kind of protected and they know they can keep breeding.’
