Welcome to our first newsletter for 2022 – the time sure flies when you’re having fun! This year has not disappointed; but despite the global pandemic, La Niña, floods, fuel hikes etc, we continue to keep optimistic about aviation. We’re excited to see that many of our airport clients are seeing increases to their passenger numbers, and that we are getting to catch up more regularly in person. Not needing to have multiple contingency plans on border changes is worthy of a celebration in itself!
I’ve been doing a lot of work on ensuring we maintain a long-term presence in the industry, providing continuity and ongoing service to our clients. I am proud that the next generation is stepping up to the leadership challenge. My sincere congratulations and thanks to Alexandra Stone, James Binkhorst and Jasmine Maftei for taking up team leader positions; and to Kylie Patrick for once again taking on management of a team member, Charlotte Kok, who moves into a full-time position. We welcomed Jordon Scott to the team in February (see more about him below) and we are excited to have Tyler Rogers move from our Canadian team to our Aussie team in April. Tyler has been the Avisure Services site manager at Vancouver Airport for the past seven years. After over 10 years dedicated service with the company, we also sadly say farewell to Sharon Worthing, who is planning for semi-retirement, and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
Phil Shaw and I are humbled and honoured to be finalists in the A22 Airspace Awards – the Distinguished Leadership award and the Aviation Women in Aviation/Aerospace Outstanding Achievement in Aviation and Aerospace Sectors, respectively. The awards dinner, where winners will be announced, is being held in Melbourne on 7 April 2022.
Our team look forward to catching up with you at these upcoming events. Alexandra Stone will be part of a panel discussing the impact of Covid-19 on wildlife hazard management at the Australian Airports Association (AAA) Ops Swap in Sydney; and as the chair of the AAA Emergency Committee, I look forward to catching up at the AAA Emergency Forum.
