Wildlife Management Officer – Adelaide

Avisure specialises in wildlife strike and risk mitigation for the aviation industry. The Role

Based in Adelaide, you will be reporting directly to the Southern Australia Regional Manager. The position is responsible for monitoring and managing wildlife populations on and around airfields to minimize risks to aircraft operations. You will be required to operate vehicles in airfields, around runways, taxiways and surrounding areas and use radios to communicate with air traffic controllers. 

The successful applicant will possess knowledge of local wildlife (mainly birds, overabundant native and/or feral animals) behaviours and their management. You will also have a tertiary degree in Biology, Ecology or wildlife or TAFE Diploma or Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management. 

Essential Skills and attributes:

  1. Bird identification skills, experience in wildlife surveys and management. 
  2. Situational awareness, the ability to identify safety considerations involving aircraft movement, wildlife presence, and the activity of other vehicles, equipment and people.
  3. Capability of operating a variety of tools and equipment to manage wildlife.
  4. The ability to use problem-solving techniques to disperse wildlife safely and effectively from airfields and adjacent habitats.
  5. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office (especially Excel) skills including the ability to manipulate data in spreadsheets.
  6. Ability to work autonomously, after hours and on weekends (relevant penalty rates will be applied). 
  7. Willing to assist on non-aviation ecological projects. 
  8. Desire to travel and deliver occasional rural and interstate projects.
  9. Demonstrated experience or the desire to handle, operate and maintain firearms and/or agents of wildlife control. 

Required qualifications or have the ability to obtain:

  1. Aerodrome Reporting Officer Certificate Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC)
  2. Baseline vetting and clearance to operate in an aviation environment
  3. Police Check
  4. Firearms licence – Categories A and/or B and/or C 
  5. Standard First Aid certification.
