In 2007, Avisure commenced a project with Rockhampton airport to develop and implement a wildlife management program. With a strong commitment to an integrated approach to managing wildlife risks, their program incorporates monitoring, reporting, and risk assessments, with equal importance given to both on and off-airport hazards. Their program has also included the delivery of various training and workshops for Rockhampton Airport staff.
A major program output involved the management of Australian White Ibis in the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, in conjunction with our sister company, Ecosure. The high strike risk presented by ibis occupying the Botanic Gardens was further confounded by the ephemeral lagoons bordering the airports perimeter fence, requiring an adaptive management approach by all stakeholders.
